The name says it all… Chaise Tout Bois is made entirely of wood, as the only chair by the French designer Jean Prouvé. The difference with the famous Standard chair is that the metal base consists of a wooden version since metal was scarce during WWII. Prouvé provided a solid transition point between the seat and the backrest, where the human weight is greatest. This is also reflected in Jean Prouvé’s other designs. During the war, Prouvé created several prototypes, but in the end, Chaise Tout Bois was executed in strong oak and plywood. In 1947, Prouvé’s wooden chair won an award in the ‘Meubles de France’ competition, intended to discover beautiful, high-quality, mass-produced furniture. The warm look and feel of the wood contrasts beautifully with the practical and functional design. Designcollectors has the chair in natural or dark stained oak.
