Designer
Charles & Ray Eames in 1940
For the competition "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" held by the Museum of Modern Art in 1941, Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen designed the Organic Chair in several versions.
The designs were ahead of their time, but never went into production owing to a lack of technology. Vitra launched the Organic Chair in 2006 and followed it up with the Organic Highback in 2008, a version with an elongated
backrest (and neck support). The range is now expanded with the new Organic Conference, featuring a slightly higher and forward-tilted
shell. This makes it well-suited for use with tables, as in the dining room or at conferences and meetings.
- Seat shell : laminated.
- Upholstery : polyurethane foam with fabric cover.
- Base : black ash.
