Eileen Gray in 1929
The Jean Foldable Table is designed by Eileen Gray in 1927 for her summer villa E 1027. The table features a frame of chromium-plated steel tubing and the tabletop is laminated in white melamine with solid beech edging. Eileen Gray named the table after the architect Jean Badovici, her intimate friend of many years. "Every room has at its disposal one of these tables", wrote Eileen Gray, "that at the same time can serve as a desk. For entertaining one moves all the pieces together, unfolds them and what follows is a small dining table, light yet absolutely stable."
