Marcel Breuer in 1929
This comfortable S 35 L club chair was presented in 1930 at the Paris Grand Palais as a contribution by the Deutscher Werkbund. Together with Walter Gropius and Herbert Bayer, Marcel Breuer organized this premiere of contemporary German furniture production in France. With the S 35 L Chair he succeeded in integrating all of the functions of a tubular steel cantilever chair with the construction of a single uninterrupted line. The cantilever effect was thus doubled because the armrests, which flex independently from the seat, balance the swinging of the seat and backrest frame that projects towards the back. Frames of chrome-plated tubular steel. Seat and backrest covered with black full-grain butt leather. Armrests in stained beech or oiled walnut. The matching footstool is also available at Designcollectors.
