George Nakashima in 1946
The wooden Straight Chair is a design classic by the hand of George Nakashima, one of the leading designers and craftsmen of the 20th century. The Nakashima Straight Chair is an ode to the natural beauty of wood and an impressive example of craftsmanship. Thanks to the subtle low-sheen finish, the natural wood grain stands out beautifully. “There must be a union between the spirit in wood and the spirit in man,” this is how George Nakashima phrased the philosophy of his world-renowned woodwork workshop. The frame is constructed from solid American Walnut, turned American Walnut legs and stretches, and contrasting Hickory spindles, with clear low-sheen finish and nylon glides.
