Born in Barcelona in 1941, Ramón Bigas is a leading figure in Spanish design. Transitioning from studying Physics to pursuing artistic creation, he co-founded AD (Associate Designers) in 1958 with Pep Sant. Notably, they transformed it into one of Europe's most acclaimed design firms. Bigas spearheaded innovative projects, including the iconic Spanish high-speed train (AVE) and the cauldron for the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. His diverse portfolio ranges from interior design to exhibitions and includes iconic items like the Micro lamp and the Ramón chair for Santa & Cole. Bigas emphasizes practicality over mere inspiration, viewing design as the bridge between rationality and aesthetics. As president of the FAD from 1995 to 2001, he championed this ideology, advocating for functional and intuitive design.
