Toune Kyoto

Toune Kyoto is a restored 120-year-old machiya behind Bukkoji Temple, conceived as a place to experience everyday life within a historic setting. 

The renovation preserves its timber structure and inner garden while adapting it for contemporary use. The ground floor features darker tones, contrasted by a lighter upper level in natural wood. During the day, light filters through washi paper, creating a soft, diffused glow, while subtle shadows blend into the atmosphere. At night, our lighting softly illuminates the interior.
