In 1955 ondernam Ilmari Tapiovaara, ontwerper van stoelen en meubels, een project om een lamp te creëren. Zijn inspiratiebron was Maya de Bij, een sympathiek figuurtje uit een kinderboek van 1912. Tapiovaara bedacht een cilinder van kleine metalen schijfjes, die het licht verdeelt als een glinsterende honingraat, gehuld in een warme sfeer. Bij Designcollectors vind je 3 verschillende versies van de Maija-lamp: een tafellamp, staande lamp en hanglamp. De Tapiovaara Maija 30 Staande lamp heeft schijfjes van 30 centimeter diameter. Metalen lampenkap in mat wit. Diffusor in wit doorschijnend technisch plastic. Met dimmer.
