We try our best to make your shopping experience a pleasant one. To assure that you enjoy your shopping experience, even as a new online shopper, we have created this information page. It explains how the Designcollectors shop works:
- How to browse and filter products
- How to customize a product
- How to create an account
- How does the shopping basket work?
- How can you check out
- What are the payment options?
- How can you create a favourites list
- How can you create a gift list
There are two ways to browse for products on the homepage. The standard way is by category. The other way is by designer, as you can see below. This is the best way if you already have a designer's name in mind.
There is a wide range of designers available, which are sorted alphabetically by their surname. If you click a designer's name, you will see all the furniture, which has been designed by that person and that is available in our store.
When using the standard way (by category), the search results are sorted by kind. When you choose a category, for example ‘chairs', you will see all the different types of chairs that are available at the Designcollectors shop. You can refine your selection by using the filter options on the right, as shown below.
You can filter by what type of chair you are looking for, or by designer. Once you select a filter, the results are shown immediately in the main area of the shop. Next, we look at how to customise a product.
Once you have found your favourite design product, it is time to customise it to your liking. Many products have a selection of options available, such as finishing, colour, fabric, leather, etc. To customise the product, you have to use the ‘Choose your configuration' area as shown below. When you make a selection, the price is updated accordingly, if there is an extra cost involved.
If you want to have a closer look at the dimensions, colours or material, you can scroll down the page to the options area. This is where you will find the dimensions of the product in question. The dimensions are shown in millimetres and inches (shown in red).
The colours do not always have a meaningful name, which is why you will find additional information in the options area when you click the colours tab. You will see a small preview of the colours with the name next to it.
You can roll over the colour previews to get a bigger preview, as shown above, so you get a better idea on what it looks like.
Creating an account is easy and free of charge. You will require an account to shop, and there are several ways to create one. One way is to use the login link, which you can find in the top-right corner.
Once you have clicked on the login link, you will be directed to the page where you can register by completing all appropriate fields.
The shopping basket is found on the right-hand side and collects all the products that you have selected whilst shopping.
The first three products are represented by their thumbnail image. If you add five more products for example, you shopping basket will look exactly as shown above. You can check the contents of your shopping basket at any time by clicking the red ‘check out' button. The result will be similar to what is shown below.
Above, you can see an example of what your shopping basket looks like after you have clicked ‘check out'. You see a thumbnail image of the product, the name of the product, the designer, quantity, price and subtotal. The red gift box is an indicator that you have bought an item from a gift list. You can delete an item on the left-hand side. You can also easily change the quantity by adding a new number and using the recalculate button. If you want to go back to the shop, use the ‘continue shopping' button.
If you clicked the 'check out' button and you are not logged in yet or if you are a new user, you will be directed to the page you can see below. If you are a new user, you will have to click the ‘register' button.
As an existing user, you can use the second box to log in with your e-mail address and the password that you used to register. You can tick the 'remember me' checkbox, so next time you visit, you will not have to log in again. If you forgot your password, you can click the ‘forgot your password?' link and we will send you an e-mail with the password you used to register.
Once you are logged in or registered, you will be directed to the ‘review your order' page as shown above. This is your last chance to double-check your order to assure that you are 100% certain that everything is correct before clicking the ‘submit order' button. If you received a gift certificate or a promotional code, you can copy and paste it into the appropriate field just above the ‘terms and conditions of sale'.
What are the payment options?
The final step after clicking ‘submit order' is your payment. Designcollectors offers two methods of payment, either by credit card or by bank transfer. Bank transfer can only be used for payments of over 5,000 Euros, and only within the Benelux. You find the Designcollectors bank transfer information below the form.
For your payments via credit card, we accept the following cards: American Express, Visa and MasterCard.
If you want to collect a selection of design product to have another look at later, we suggest that you create a favourites list. A favourites list is very easy to create once you have signed up for an account, as we explained above. Once you are logged in, all you have to do is click the ‘add to favourites' button, which is just below the ‘add to shopping basket' button.
You can check what is in your favourites list by using the link, which you can find at the bottom of every page if you are logged in. As you can see above, it is stored under ‘my account'.
You can add as many items as you want to you favourites list. In the image above, you can get an idea of what it will look like. You can delete items by using the ‘delete' button on the left. To go to the specific item, simply click the name of the product and you will be transferred to that specific product page.
Our Designcollectors shop also has a ‘gift list' option. You can create a gift list for any special occasion, like a wedding, a house warming, etc. On the homepage, you will see the ‘gift list' options on the right-hand side of the page, as shown below.
Once you clicked one of these links, you will be transferred to the page shown below. The first area is for finding a gift list with the unique code that you have received. The second area is for creating a new gift list. You do need to be registered in order to create a gift list. It is a very simple process in just three steps.
Once you are registered, you can browse through our shop and add items by clicking the ‘add to gift list' button on the right-hand side. You can edit your gift list at any time by using the ‘edit my gift list' area, or by selecting ‘edit my gift list' at the bottom of the page under ‘my account'.
Above, you can see what a gift list looks like for a visitor that has received a unique code. You can easily see how many people already contributed towards an item. If you want to make your own contribution, simply add an amount in the ‘I give in Euro' box and click the red ‘add' button.
