This is a true showcase that many of the Vitra furniture you find in our store can have a purpose in an office space environment as well. We have to go to the Bay Area to get a glimpse at the company who helped Facebook in their new surroundings.
150,000-square-foot office at Palo Alto
Studio O+A was responsible for redesigning Facebook new 150,000-square-foot office at Palo Alto, California, USA. Studio O+A is a San Francisco based firm, founded by Primo Orpilla and Verda Alexander during the dot-com boom of the early 1990s, bringing quality design to start-ups and venture firms at Silicon Valley. Everybody had their say in this redesign as the employees were consulted to find their expectations about the new office space and each department was designed in a different way.
Just as people make the space on the website their own, we've opted to do the same with our physical space. We've left a lot of the walls white and the spaces unfinished to encourage employees to add the finishing touches.
— Facebook employee Everett Katigbak
Neighborhoods
Each office space has its own aesthetic and culture that you can see as "neighborhoods". There is a DJ area, several lounge areas and impromptu work spaces. Employees are encouraged to be creative and can write on the wall, add artwork and make their space their own by rearranging some furniture.
