The fact that you are reading this blog is no coincidence. After all, you are a design lover and you want to know all about it. And the people behind Designcollectors, they share your passion. All their life, they have been fascinated by architecture and design, like the furniture by Vitra, Artek and Thonet. Surely, you are looking forward to meeting Tine Castelein, who runs the web shop and the other logistical activities of the family business together with her sister Charlotte and her brother Pieter.

Fascinated by design

Already at a young age, Tine learned to look at and enjoy beautiful things. It was always inevitable that she would develop this interest into her professional life. On 1 April 2009, that dream turned into reality when the user-friendly web shop with the Vitra Home collection went online. Since then, the collection was expanded to include Artek and Thonet, as well as the unique bags by Maharam. Today, Designcollectors has the largest stock in Europe, which allows sister company and experienced logistical partner Castelein to deliver everything fast and with great care.

“In 2009, we started Designcollectors based on an interest for architecture and design. Our idea: ensure a large stock to serve our customers across Europe fast.”

Favourite designs

At home, Tine also surrounds herself with her favourite furniture. The designs by Alvar Aalto, Isamu Noguchi, Jean Prouvé, Charles & Ray Eames are a perfect match for the modernist home she was fortunate to buy with her husband. The bungalow was constructed in 1964 by friends of her parents, and the building had fascinated Tine and her husband from a young age. The house needed some thorough renovations, but the layout was kept. The spacious home without any stairs is perfect for the family with three kids.

The bungalow was constructed in 1964 by modernist Architect Arthur Degeyter, and the building had fascinated Tine from a young age.

“The large entrance hall and hallway make for a central axis, where the kids play all day.”

Vitra Butterfly stool, Nestable, Lounge Chair & Ottoman and Coffee table are completing the interior.

One of Tine’s favourite pieces from the Designcollectors range is the Artek Tea Trolley. This design by Alvar Aalto from 1937 has been given a prominent place in her own living room.

In Tine's office corner we find a Vitra Soft Pad Group EA 217, Tabouret Solvay, Wooden Dolls and Night Clock.

The kids’ rooms were also furnished with pieces from Designcollectors. After all, quality furniture can handle a knock or two! And, as the twig is bent… the tree is inclined.

In Simon's room we find a Vitra Eames Elephant, Vitra Occasional Table LTR to put some books on, a Thonet S 43 K as chair, and a Thonet B 97 as desk.

Felix is sitting on an Artek N65 childrens chair. The Artek 112B Wall Shelf is installed upside down and serves as a handy desk. A Vitra Akari 1AD is sitting on the windowsill.

Kids always love the iconic rocking armchair designed by Charles & Ray Eames. The Vitra Akari 1AY adds some extra mood lighting to Marie's room at nightfall.

In the garden, the Vitra Elephant Stool adds a nice touch (as well as play fun).

Professional service

Tine’s passion for design also shows in the care with which products are handled at Designcollectors, as well as in the quality of the customer service. Logistical partner Castelein has all the knowhow to deliver products fast and safely wrapped to customers. In brief, Designcollectors is the work of passionate professionals – your guarantee for quality products and excellent service.
